Big Championship Chase Weekend at Dodge City Modified Stampede!
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 18, 2013) – Not only will some extra money be on the line at this weekend’s Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede, but two critical nights of championship points action will add to the intrigue at Dodge City Raceway Park on Friday and Saturday.
In addition to the IMCA Modifieds battling it out for $1,200 to win on both nights, championship points will be in play as well for the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.
Cody Gearhart holds a 29-point advantage in the DCRP Modified title chase entering the weekend, Jeff Kaup is just 11 points ahead of Clay Sellard in the Sport Modified title chase, Billy Phelps holds the Stock Car lead and Dustin Walker is atop the Thunder Car point charts.
With a $1,200 IMCA Modified winner’s share up for grabs on both nights of the Dodge City Modified Stampede, the balance of the top five each night will earn $800, $600, $550 and $500 with $275 for tenth and $150 to start.
Racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
Opening day victor Cody Gearhart broke through as the first repeat winner of the season by topping the most recent feature on June 29 and holds a 29-point lead over Jon Herring, Jr., who ran second to Gearhart on June 29 after picking off his first DCRP win the previous time out on June 15.

Mike Shenberger carries back-to-back wins into the weekend but the battle is for the top spot with only 11 points separating Jeff Kaup and Clay Sellard after six nights of action.

IMCA Stock Cars:
While six other drivers have reached victory lane in as many events thus far, winless Billy Phelps has finished no lower than sixth and has opened up an 87-point advantage in the Stock Car points race with only 63 points separating the six drivers ranked second through seventh.

Dustin Walker emerged with the points lead after the third round of Thunder Car action, but not by much though as Tobby Schield is just five points back. Shield, the only driver to repeat atop the DCRP 3/8-mile clay oval thus far in 2013, is gunning for a third consecutive win on Saturday night.

The track’s other championship chase division, the Hornets, will next see action on August 31. With four wins in five Hornet outings atop the inner asphalt oval thus far, Dodge City’s Jarett Lunow holds a 30-point advantage over Brandon Bogner.
Tickets to this weekend’s Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede are $15 each night, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Five of 18 scheduled nights of competition in 2013 at DCRP remain after this weekend’s Dodge City Modified Stampede including URSS Sprints on Fire & Safety/EMS Appreciation Night next Friday, July 26, USAC Southwest Sprint Cars on August 23-24, championship chase action on August 31 and the season ending Jerry Soderberg Championship Memorial Event on September 28.
