Boothill Showdown at DCRP this Weekend!

skm16 980Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 27, 2016) – It is finally here. It’s “Boothill Showdown” Steve King Memorial week in Dodge City where upwards of 100 Sprint Cars will converge upon the state-of-the art 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval for this weekend’s racing action.

More than $70,000 will be paid out over the course of the two-night event on Friday and Saturday with the NCRA Sprint Cars, URSS vs. Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars and Colorado Lightning Sprints presented by Eagle Chassis in action both nights.

The NCRA Sprint Cars will be gunning for a $10,000 winner’s share in Saturday night’s finale with $2,000 up for grabs for the 305-ci URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car ranks.

On Friday night, both the 360-ci and 305-ci Sprint Car ranks will be lined up in heat races according to pill draw with 20 cars making each feature. There will be no lock-ins from Friday’s preliminary action that offers $1,500-to-win in NCRA action and $500 in URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car competition.

Things amp up on Saturday with the big money on the line and 24-car championship feature starting fields for both the 360s and 305s. Any driver showing up for the final night only can start no better than 11th in the main event.

Saturday’s heat races will once again be lined up according to pill draw, with the NCRA 360-ci Sprint Cars then setting feature lineups though qualifying race action after the heat races with combined points from the heats and qualifiers setting the grid.

Tony Bruce, Jr., is the reigning Steve King Memorial winner after outlasting 2014 race winner C.J. Johnson in last year’s edition. Luke Cranston topped the 305-ci portion of last year’s Steve King Memorial.

A multi-time NCRA champion, Quinter’s C.J. Johnson enters the weekend atop the series points just 25 markers ahead of Don Droud, Jr., with Jeremy Campbell, Ray Seemann and Forrest Sutherland among the top five. Lincoln Nebraska’s Droud, Jr., has picked off three series win this season including a May 7 triumph atop the DCRP clay.

Arkansas shoe Derek Hagar, who swept the season-opening NCRA double at Wichita’s 81 Speedway in March, is among those set for “Boothill Showdown” Steve King Memorial action this weekend along with a number of other invaders.

Along with the $10,000 winner’s share, Saturday’s NCRA feature offers up $500 to start, $1,200 for tenth and $2,500 for fifth. Saturday’s complete NCRA Sprint Car feature payout is as follows: 1. $10,000; 2. $6,000; 3. $3,000; 4. $2,700; 5. $2,500; 6. $2,200; 7. $2,000; 8. $1,700; 9. $1,500; 10. $1,200; 11. $1,000; 12. $800; 13. $700; 14. $600; 15 – 24. $500. Non-Transfers: $150.

Turpin, Oklahoma’s Taylor Velasquez enters the weekend atop Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car points while reigning track champion Luke Cranston leads URSS Kansas Regional points. This weekend’s marks the first pair of URSS National events for the 2016 season.

Along with the $2,000 winner’s share for the URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car ranks, Saturday’s feature offers up $250 to start, $425 for tenth and $800 for fifth. Saturday’s complete URSS vs. DCRP Sprint Car payout is as follows: 1. $2,000; 2. $1,500; 3. $1,000; 4. $900; 5. $800; 6. $700; 7. $600; 8. $500; 9. $450; 10. $425; 11. $400; 12. $375; 13. $350; 14. $325; 15. $300; 16. $275; 17 – 24. $250. Non-Transfers: $100.

Eagle Chassis presents the 1200-cc Colorado Lightning Sprints for the weekend. Last year, Minnesota’s Dexter Dvergsten and Manitoba’s Wally Butler split “Boothill Showdown” honors.

The Boothill Showdown’s Steve King Memorial is in memory of the popular Jetmore, KS, racer that lost his life in a 2006 Knoxville Nationals crash. The Steve King Foundation was established after his passing to assist members of the racing family in times of need. Tickets to the Boothill Showdown featuring the Steve King Memorial on July 1-2 are just $25 for adults each night with children 11 and under free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30 each night.
