Jason Sides knew he wasn’t going to get very many shots to pass a very strong race leader in 2010 World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Champion Jason Meyers. The Clovis, Calif. native had been stout all weekend and started the second night of the two day show on the pole and led early on. However, lap traffic proved to be the window of opportunity that outside pole sitter Sides needed.

“Lap traffic played a big role in tonights race,” said an exhausted yet excited Sides. “Jason (Meyers) got in there a little bit hot and slid up the track a bit and that opened the bottom up for me. There was quite a bet of wet stuff low so that was the best place for our car. When I saw that open up, I knew I had to take it.”

Meyers wound up second after fending off a hard charging Sammy Swindell for third and there was quite a bit of disappointment in the former champions voice during post race interviews.

“This one is on me tonight,” said Meyers. “My crew has been working so hard and it just seems like this is how our year has gone the whole way. We’ve been close quite a bit. But I take the blame for this one. I was really wanting to get these guys to victory lane tonight.”

Swindell rounded out the podium finishers after setting Quick Time on the night with a 13.570 lap around the three eighths mile oval. Swindell battled his Big Game Tree Stands teammate, Craig Dollansky throughout the main event.

“Craig and I had a good battle going there,” said Swindell, who has four victories on the season. “It was a lot of back and forth which was good and I was able to find the line that worked really well for my car and that was the best I could do.”

Dollansky, the previous nights winner, settled for fourth with Ben Gregg slotting in the fifth position. Series points leader Donny Schatz finished 8th and retook the series points lead by seven over Joey Saldana, who finished 13th

The Outlaws are back in action again at Cedar Lake Speedway on Friday, July 8 and Beaver Dam Raceway on Saturday, July 9.

DODGE CITY RACEWAY PARK NOTEBOOK

QUICK TIME – Sammy Swindell was the night’s fastest qualifier with a lap around the three eighths-mile oval in 13.570 seconds, earning five championship points. Ben Gregg, Craig Dollansky, Chad Kemenah and Jason Sides also earned qualifying points. It marked Swindell’s third Quick Time of the season.

Dry and hot conditions have forced city and local officials to ban fireworks in Southwest Kansas. However, the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series staged a show that would put even the biggest and brightest fireworks to shame. Elk River, Minn native Craig Dollansky charged through the field and used a late race restart to grab his fifth win of the season and first victory at Dodge City Raceway Park.

“Tonight certainly was a work in progress as we had to keep adjusting throughout the heats and the dash,” said Dollansky in victory lane. “It always is a total team effort and to get that last restart was pretty cool. I wasn’t quite sure what was going to happen on it. I got a good run off of Sammy (Swindell) coming off of turn 2 and got under him and made it work.”

Swindell, who led 26 laps of the 30 lap main event, settled for second place after starting on the outside pole.

“We really didn’t want to see that caution with three (laps) to go,” said Swindell, a native of Germantown, Tenn. “Craig pulled of a pretty good move and I wasn’t able to get back past him. It’s a good night for Big Game Treestands.”

2010 Series Champion Jason Meyers finished in third. Meyers, a Clovis, Calif. native, sat on the pole for the night’s main event and had high hopes going into the 30 lap affair.

“We felt like we were really close tonight to getting our first win of the season,” said Meyers. “We maybe just missed something for the feature. However, we can take tonight and add it to our notes and go on from there.”

The nights fastest qualifier, Jason Sides, was fourth with five time Dodge City race winner Joey Saldana coming home in fifth. Fargo, N.D. native Donny Schatz was running fourth in the main event until problems with the engine on his sprinter regulated him to a 20th place finish.

The Outlaws are back in action again at Dodge City Raceway Park as they close out the Boothill Showdown on

QUICK TIME – Jason Sides was the night’s fastest qualifier with a lap around the three eighths-mile oval in 13.542 seconds, earning five championship points. Kerry Madsen, Joey Saldana, Sammy Swindell and Donny Schatz also earned qualifying points. It marked Sides’s third Quick Time of the season.

CONCORD, N.C. — June 27, 2011 — Donny Schatz moved one step closer to Sprint Car racing immortality Saturday night at Princeton (Minn.) Speedway by winning the 107th World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-main of his career. Schatz, of Fargo, N.D., battled with local favorite Mark Dobmeier through the mid-point of the race, finally wrestling the lead away on Lap 28 of the 40-lapper. Schatz then held off red hot Jason Sides on the final restart to claim his second victory of the season and third in a row at the quarter-mile bullring.

Bryan Clauson started the 2011 United States Auto Club MOPAR Midgets’ racing season the same he ended the last one — on top. With two races in Dodge City over the weekend, Clauson took first place in both.

“It was a great start to the year for us,” Clauson said. “We ended with a win on turkey night last year to secure the championship and we came out firing this year to defend our title. Anytime you can come out to a hot start, it is helpful in the long run. We kind of carried momentum over, and they gave me a great race car all night.”

Clauson, a Nobelsville, Ind., native, won a total of six races to win the championship in 2010.

On Saturday night, it seemed as if Clauson was an expert at Dodge City Raceway Park, knowing the grooves in and out, going around the turns with ease and knowing how to come out as a winner. But before Friday night, Clauson had never raced in Dodge City.

“It was a lot of fun,” Clauson said about his experience in Dodge City. “Obviously we won, so I don’t have to much bad to say about it. With features on both nights, the track really widened out and we were able to use multiple grooves to make our way to the front. It was a big fast joint. It was a lot of fun to race on and it was a blast out there.”

Clauson started Saturday’s race in the middle of the pack, but he worked his way up to second place in 19 laps. He started chasing Gary Taylor who led the entire way up to that point. At the start of the 22nd lap, Clauson passed Taylor on the straightaway, going into turn one.

“This place was really racy and really fast all weekend long,” Clauson said. “It really took shape for both features over the past two nights. It was a lot of fun coming out to Dodge City and running. Fortunately we were able to bring home two wins.”

Clauson led the rest of the way, in a relatively smooth 40-lap race, which only featured a couple of cautions.
