Herbert Handles United Rebel Sprint Cars at DCRP!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 11, 2013) – Brian Herbert made the most of an opportunity to race in front of his home town crowd by driving to victory lane in Saturday night’s 25-lap United Rebel Sprint Series feature event atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval.

Herbert, the defending series champion, took the lead away from Jerry Caldwell on the third round then held off his chasers in the final laps through traffic for his first win of the year.

“I was a little concerned there, I didn’t have any way of knowing if anyone was close or not there at the end,” Herbert commented.

While Herbert took URSS Sprint Cars honors, Austin Allen snapped a victory drought in IMCA Modified action, Clay Money pocketed the winner’s share in the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, Ruben Eichman paced the final two laps of the IMCA Stock Car main for the win and Gage Barton picked off his first Hornet score at DCRP.

With Herbert gridding the feature outside row two, Jerry Caldwell and Richie Dewell led the way to the green flag. Caldwell jumped into the early lead with Herbert moving to second on the opening circuit then slipping underneath Caldwell in turns one and two for the lead on the third lap with Dewell and Ray Seemann also making their past Caldwell.

The lead trio of Herbert, Dewell and Seemann distanced themselves from the pack, reaching the tail of the field just past the midway point. Herbert kept his chasers at bay over the final circuits to secure the win with Dewell and Seemann filling out the podium.

After making his way past Caldwell for fourth on the 12^th round, Ty Williams closed a full straightaway on the lead trio and was on Seemann’s tailtank in fourth as the checkered flag flew. A straightaway behind the top four, Keefe Hemel rounded out the top five.

In IMCA Modified action, Austin Allen raced from the sixth starting position to take the lead away from early pacesetter Kevin Gray on the sixth round en route to his first DCRP score in two years.

After the initial 11 rounds of the 20-lapper ran off in non-stop fashion, Allen waded through a handful of cautions over the final rounds to post the win in front of Cody Gearhart with Jon Herring, Jr., 11^th-starter Brendon Gemmill and Jesse Smith rounding out the top five.

“I didn’t think that would ever end, it just feels good to finally win one again,” the Goddard, Kansas racer commented.

After dodging a pair of opening lap melees, Clay Money ultimately took the checkered flag in the 20-lap United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified feature from the 12^th starting position.

With Money mired six rows deep, third-starter Austin Walker paced the opening four rounds before looping it off turn two. Andy Barton assumed the lead for just one lap before Money took command on the sixth round.

Money fended off several challenges from Clay Sellard soon after the midway point before slipping away in the final circuits to take the checkered flag ahead of Kaup, who took second from Sellard on the 17^th lap. Toby Witthuhn snared the show position on the final lap, Sellard settled for fourth and Barton rounded out the top five.

After pole starter Michael Pepper barrel rolled his IMCA Stock Car without injury while leading the field into turn three on the opening lap of the 15-lap feature, Liberal’s Ruben Eichman took advantage of a late Reagan Sellard miscue to snare the victory.

Following Pepper’s flip, front row outside starter R. Sellard battled into the lead in the early rounds and held the point until losing a handful of positions following a bobble exiting turn two on the white flag lap.

Eichman took quick advantage by leading the final pair of laps to take the checkered flag ahead of Brandon Fisher, Ron Rich, Keith Riley and Billy Phelps.

Dighton’s Gage Barton battled past James Nightengale for the lead on the third round and went to snare his first Hornet victory atop the inner asphalt DCRP oval ahead of Tristan Barton with Jarett Lunow’s three-race win streak dating back to last year coming to an end with a third-place finish.

Action resumes at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday night, June 1, with a full championship card of IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets.

Get Set for Sprint Cars at DCRP!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 9, 2013) – Sprint Cars take to the Dodge City Raceway Park 3/8-mile clay oval for the first time of 2013 this Saturday night. And it’s something that will be a fairly common occurrence over the balance of the year at the southwest Kansas race track.

Beginning with Saturday’s URSS Sprint Car tilt, Sprint Cars will be featured on eight of the remaining 13 nights of competition at Dodge City Raceway Park. In addition to the URSS Sprint Cars, Saturday night’s slate includes DCRP title chase action for IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets.

Saturday’s card marks the first of five URSS 305-ci Sprint Car events at DCRP, with ensuing rounds of URSS action on June 29, the opening day of Dodge City Days on July 26 and then Championship Night on September 28.

The initial pair of URSS events simply whets the appetite of race fans for the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars that ride into town for the much anticipated Boothill Showdown on July 5-6. Tickets for the Boothill Showdown are available at http://dirtcar.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=89.

Another big weekend double of Sprint Car action offers up the wingless forces of the USAC Southwest Sprint Cars on August 23-24 that is the finale of a four-day swing that opens at South Coffeyville’s Mid-America Speedway on August 21 before moving on to 81 Speedway near Wichita on the 22^nd.

Saturday’s event marks the fourth round of competition for the URSS Sprint Cars in 2013. Ness City’s Luke Cranston has had the hot hand early on with a win at Oberlin’s Decatur County Speedway last Saturday to go along with runner-up finishes at Liberal on April 27 and Nebraska’s Dawson County Raceway last Sunday to take the early points lead.

Cranston has a ten-point edge over Ray Seemann, a top-five finisher in all three events thus far, with Richie Dewell, Zac Taylor and Dawson County winner Jeff Radcliffe rounding out the current top five. Barry Crane won the season opener at Liberal.

Wichita’s Randy Wilson carries a slim 2-point lead over Mike Lunow into Saturday’s DCRP title chase action for the IMCA Modifieds, with Clay Sellard holding a 4-point edge over Jeff Kaup in the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified point chase.

Billy Phelps leads the way in for the IMCA Stock Cars, with Jarett Lunow gunning to remain perfect in Hornets after topping the initial pair of events on the inner asphalt oval.

Saturday’s action goes green at 7:30 p.m. General admission for adults is just $12, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Eighteen scheduled nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 features several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks in April, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts in July along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.

DCRP Title Chases Resume on Saturday!

(May 8, 2013) – While the United Rebel Sprint Series takes to the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval for the first time of the year this Saturday night, heated championship chase action in four of the track’s five regular divisions only adds more excitement to a full slate of competition.

The URSS 305-ci Sprint Cars are joined on Saturday’s card by the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets. Thunder Cars are idle this weekend and return to action at the track’s next scheduled event on June 1.

Saturday’s event marks the fourth round of competition for the URSS Sprint Car ranks with Barry Crane, Luke Cranston and Jeff Radcliffe victorious in the initial three rounds.

For the track’s championship classes, it marks the first night of action since April 20 after this past weekend’s Dodge City Modified Stampede was postponed to July 19-20 by weather.

Saturday’s first official green flag flies at 7:30 p.m. General admission for adults is just $12, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Along with the URSS Sprint Cars, Saturday’s card will also include championship chase action for the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets.

Saturday’s action goes green at 7:30 p.m. General admission for adults is just $12, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

The first of four URSS stops at DCRP in 2013, Saturday’s card marks the fourth round of competition for the 305-ci Sprint Cars thus far.

Barry Crane of Ulysses, KS, topped the URSS Kansas opener at Liberal on April 27 with Ness City’s Luke Cranston and Hill City’s Jeff Radcliffe splitting victory honors this past weekend at Oberlin, KS, and Lexington, NE.

The URSS Sprint Cars made a pair of stops at Dodge City Raceway Park in 2012 with Colorado champion Jake Bubak victorious in the first outing before veteran Wichita shoe Mike Peters topped the season-ending event. Dodge City’s Brian Herbert is the reigning URSS champion.

While Sprint Cars attack the 3/8-mile oval for the first time of the year, Randy Wilson, Clay Sellard, Billy Phelps and Jarett Lunow will lead the way into Saturday’s championship chase action.

Wilson has posted a pair of fifth place finishes to jump into the early IMCA Modified points lead by just two points over Mike Lunow, while Clay Sellard’s opening day triumph has him in the top spot in IMCA Sport Modifieds by just four points over April 20 winner Jeff Kaup.

Billy Phelps has posted a pair of podium finishes to take the early IMCA Stock Car points lead while Jarett Lunow is two-for-two in Hornet action on the inner asphalt oval.

Modified Stampede Postponed by Weather

DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 2, 2013) – Inclement weather has forced the postponement of this weekend’s scheduled Dodge City Modified Stampede at Dodge City Raceway Park.

The event, which offers up a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified feature events, has been reset for July 19-20. In addition to IMCA Modifieds, both nights of competition will also include United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.

Action at Dodge City Raceway Park continues next Saturday night, May 11, with the first appearance of the year at DCRP for the URSS Sprint Cars along with a full card of IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets.

Title Chases Heat Up at DCRP!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 1, 2013) – With the inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede just a couple of short days away, the track championship battles are already heating up at Dodge City Raceway Park.

The 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval hosts the inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede on Friday and Saturday with a $1,200 winner’s share up for grabs for each night’s IMCA Modified feature winner.

While first place offers up $1,200, the balance of the top five each night collects $800, $600, $550 and $500 with $275 for tenth and $150 to start.

The United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars will be in action on both nights as well.

Both nights of racing action go green at 7:30 p.m. General admission for adults is just $15 each night, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

IMCA Modifieds:

A pair of fifth-place finishes has “The Big Kahuna”, Randy Wilson, out to the early points lead after Turpin, Oklahoma’s Cody Gearhart topped the March 30 season opener and then two-time and defending track champion Brendon Gemmill of Ponca City, OK, raced from 16^th to win the April 20 feature event.

United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds:

After winning the March 30 season opener, 2011 track champion Clay Sellard holds a four-point edge over April 20 victor Jeff Kaup.

Podium finishes of third and second in the initial two rounds of action has Billy Phelps out to the early lead with a 13-point advantage over Josh Crombie after Shannon Maughlin and Cody Zimmerman claimed the initial pair of wins.

Thunder Cars:

Swapping second and fourth place finishing positions in the initial pair of events, Cody Davis and Dustin Walker are deadlocked atop the point charts with Scott Messino and Toby Schield victorious in the initial pair of events.

Hornets:

Jarett Lunow is two-for-two this year after closing out the 2012 season with his first Hornet score. Hornets return to action next Saturday, May 11, on the card that includes URSS Sprint Cars along with the track’s five championship divisions.

Following this weekend’s Dodge City Modified Stampede, action at DCRP continues on Saturday, May 11, with the first URSS Sprint Car appearance of the year along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets.

Eighteen overall nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 includes several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks on April 12-13, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts on May 3-4 along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.

Dodge City Modified Stampede this Weekend!

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 29, 2013) – Two full nights of racing action are on tap for the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval this weekend with the Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede set for Friday and Saturday.

While the IMCA Modified ranks will battle it out for the $1,200 winner’s share on both nights, the two-day tilt will also include the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.

Both nights of racing action go green at 7:30 p.m. General admission for adults is just $15 each night, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

The IMCA Modifieds have started in strong form at Dodge City Raceway Park in 2013 with 27 competitors in the March 30 season opener and then once again 27 entries in championship chase round two on April 20.

It’s likely that more can be expected for this weekend’s double that offers up $1,200 to win on both Friday and Saturday with the balance of the top five each night earning $800, $600, $550 and $500. Tenth each night receives $275 with $150 to start each main event.

Turpin, Oklahoma’s Cody Gearhart won the March 30 season opener while two-time and reigning track champion Brendon Gemmill of Ponca City, OK, topped the April 20 event from the 16^th starting position.

Wichita’s Randy Wilson is out to the early DCRP championship points lead in the IMCA Modifieds after finishing fifth in each of the initial two rounds of action. Wilson, known as “The Big Kahuna”, is just two points ahead of Dodge City’s Mike Lunow with the balance of the top five in points including Jesse Smith, Beau Davis and Danny Keller.

Clay Sellard and Jeff Kaup have topped the initial pair of United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified features with Bucklin’s Sellard just four points ahead of Woodward, Oklahoma’s Kaup in the title chase with Matthew Crowell, Mike Appel and Josh Appel filling out the top five.

Shannon Maughlin and Cody Zimmerman have been victorious in IMCA Stock Car action but it’s Mooreland, Oklahoma’s Billy Phelps out to the early points lead ahead of Josh Crombie, Mel Law, Brett Copeland and Keith Riley.

The Thunder Cars have offered up a pair of different winners as well with Scott Messino and Toby Schield posting feature wins. However, it’s Bucklin’s Cody Davis and Buffalo, Oklahoma’s Dustin Walker tied for the early points lead ahead of Schield, Matt O’Hair and Messino.

Following this weekend’s Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede, action continues at Dodge City Raceway Park next Saturday night, May 11, with the United Rebel Sprint Series in action along with the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Hornets.

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 24, 2013) – Little more than one week remains before the Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede takes place atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park in southwest Kansas.

The IMCA Modified event will take place over two nights next Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, with both full nights of action offering up a $1,200 winner’s share. The balance of the top five each night earns $800, $600, $550 and $500 with $275 for tenth and $150 to start each main event.

Both nights will also include a full slate of action that includes United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.

Racing action will get underway at 7:30 on both May 3 and May 4.

Tickets to both nights of racing action on May 3-4 will be just $15 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
