Only two races left this year in Liberal.

The Liberal racing season is coming to a close for this year with this next race on Sunday, August 29 and then the last race which is September 19. Wow what a season it has been already!

Sunday, August 29 is UNITED WIRELESS FAN APPRECIATION Night at the Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway with United Wireless IMCA Stock Cars getting top billing and racing a 30 Lap Feature for $400 to win! $400 to win in this class is a big amount and should draw cars from all over. Tuff of the tuffest in this class with guys like Cole Wilson who is sponsored by the Southwest Daily Times. Wilson who is 22 years old is a second generation race car driver and he is also the kind of driver who seeks out a different line. If the inside line is fast he still goes up to the top of the track to see if it is faster. Always thinking his way to the front this guy was the Kansas State Champion in the IMCA Stock Car division.

Take a look at the IMCA Points for this United Wireless class:

2010 Liberal Stock Car Track Points
1 46 Cole Wilson 71
2 7s Drew Denton 68
3 82 Mike Olson 63
4 13J Roy Beckett 63
5 60T Rod Wadel 39
6 40 Rich Wadel 38
7 6L Tim Leiker 37
8 44 Randy Dowell 36
9 14 Brandon Fisher 35
10 17H Jeremy Hogg 33

Wilson is leading but Drew Denton, Mike Olson, and Roy Beckett are all up in the race to the finish for sure. Four of them and all need the points and now the purse has been raised. Look for Rod Wadel – his son Rich and guys like Tim Lieker, Brandon Fisher and Jeremy Hogg to jump in the party for $400 bux to win!

Other classes running that night are the Monster Energy IMCA Modifieds, and Thunder Cars and IMCA Sport Mods. Those points races are close also.

Tickets are only $5 bux for everyone in the Grandstands!

Thanks to UNITED WIRELESS for their involvement in the racing in Liberal – go by their store and check out the best service you could ever imagine.

Tickets available at NAPA AUTO PARTS in Liberal and Guymon so you do not have to wait in line and you can also go get some of the “Good Stuff” at NAPA.

Grandstand Gates open at 5 Hot Laps at 6 and Races 6:30pm

Nut would have been Proud!

The weather was ideal and the grandstands were full Sunday night at Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway for the second annual Nut Cokeley Memorial races. Cokeley was a famous racer from the 50’s and 60’s that won many races all over Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. “Nut” was a friend to many and was always one to help no matter if it was his stiffest competition he always was the guy that would take an extra step to help someone.

Heavy rains over the weekend forced the track crew to work extra hard prior to and during the racing action, and their efforts were rewarded with some extremely close and exciting wheel to wheel action. The crew from the Seward County Road and Bridge Department again stepped up to the plate and help make the race track raceable.

A great night of exciting racing had the crowd on their feet several times during the night. Of the four divisions in competition, two divisions were decided by passes in the final laps of their main event races including an absolute barn burner in the 360 Sprint Car A – Main. Gary Lee Maier of Cimarron, KS started on the pole of the main event and was heavily challenged by local favorite Jason Martin in the 36 car. The racing action was incredibly close in the final laps as the two leaders diced through lap traffic, and it was Maier in 1X who was able to squeeze through for the victory by less than a car length. Jason Campbell  from Michigan, in the E85 Ethanol sponsored car came home in third place nearly half a lap behind Maier and Martin.

In the IMCA Modified division it was number 721 Troy Gemmill of Ponca City, OK making it a clean sweep of the weekend, racking up three victories in three days at three different tracks (Hays, Dodge and Liberal). Gemmill had his work cut out for him chasing down Zach Gossett of Amarillo, TX who started on the pole and was extremely quick all night.  With a little help from lap traffic Gemmill was able to overtake Gossett in the final laps of the A – Main event and drive home with the victory.  Ryan Heger in 3H from Hugoton came home in second with Liberal driver Cody Gearhart in 1M picking up third.

The IMCA Stock Car A – Main was a Wadel show with Rod and Rich Wadel running away from the pack, Rod in the 60T brought home the victory with Rich in the 40 car coming in second.  Tim Leiker in 6L ran third for most of the race and would round out the top 3.  All 3 of these drivers were from Garden City.

Last but not least, the Napa Thunder Cars were the first division to take to the speedway for their main event with Brett Copeland in the 19C car running away from the pack for an easy victory.  Copeland from Fowler was the Southwest Champion (Dodge City – Liberal) last year and he is on a roll. 7C Gene Sallee would bring home second, with 28G Ty Shaffer picking up third.

Nut’s son Mark was in the audience and he and the huge crowd seems to enjoy the antique cars from the Kansas Antique Auto Racers. Area KARS representative Roger Burnett had a group of several different types of cars from the 40’s through the 70’s.

The next event on the schedule for Liberal Fairgrounds Speedway is the Monster Truck Summer Nationals coming up on June 4 and 5. Five of the top monster trucks in the country will be in action, along with Quad Racing and those wild and crazy Tuff Trucks. Come on out to see Equalizer take on Barbarian, Hot Tamale out of Mexico City, War Eagle, and Razin Kane out of Florida. These trucks are travelling from all across North America to put on a show in Liberal, and the action is sure to be hot!

Liberal Schedule is full of Action

The second year for us is coming up in Liberal and we have had great sucess.  Our goal was to get racing back to the race fan so they would see how good of a show they have been missing.  So far so good.  Race cars are being built, race track was great after Tony and the Seward Bridge and Road Crew completely revamped the old “D” shaped dirt track.

We honored the tracks past Champion the late Nut Cokely and also honored one of the nicest guys you would ever meet in racing Don Graves.  The BST held last year saw over 60 IMCA Modifieds there in one night!  This year the Mods are back and so is the BST SERIES.

Also turning up the heat in 2010 will be the fire breathing 360 Sprint Cars.  The Kansas Outlaw Sprint Cars which is a combination of 305 and 360 Sprint Cars will be there several times this year and opening it up to 360’s will allow several more Liberal racers a chance to compete.

Here below is the Schedule -Let’s Go Racing in Liberal!

After working with other tracks, Sanctioning people, and special promotions here is the Schedule that will go to the Print Shop.

Race fans and racers we just finished with scheduling our BST IMCA MODIFIED race for Liberal and it is on for September 19th and we are excited to be able to offer these races to our Monster IMCA Modifieds.

BST has cut their amount of race tracks in Kansas down and we are proud to say that Liberal, Dodge and also Millie over at Hugoton is on the list to host BST – IMCA Modified Series races for 2010.
