bubak&cranston 980Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (September 15, 2017) – It all began back in April.  Now, a quick five months later, the 2017 championship battles come to a close with Saturday night’s Fifth Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval.

Saturday’s card that fires off at 7:00 p.m. includes a $750-to-win Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Car vs. URSS Sprint Car feature event courtesy of Comfort Suites along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.

The Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event has evolved into one of the track’s marquee events with drivers eager to add their name to the list of winners.  Defending race winners include Jake Bubak (DCRP vs. URSS Sprint Cars), Cole Traugott (IMCA Modifieds), Jeff Kaup (IMCA Sport Modifieds), Michael Pepper (IMCA Stock Cars) and David Berger (IMCA Hobby Stocks).

Along with vying for the regular season-ending win, final positions throughout the top ten in each of the five divisions will be settled as well.

A look at the top ten going into Saturday’s Fifth Annual Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event is as follows…

Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars:

Taylor Velasquez can secure his second consecutive track championship by racing his way into Saturday night’s feature event.  Velasquez is among the eight different drivers that have posted wins in the last eight events after Ty Williams opened the season with back-to-back wins.  Defending Soderberg Memorial winner Jake Bubak is among those eight drivers as well.

Ty Williams (Arcadia, OK) 696.

IMCA Modifieds:

While Clay Sellard simply needs to show up to add the IMCA Modified track title to a previous Sport Mod crown, the battle in his wake is fierce with defending champ Nick Link leading a six-way battle for runner-up honors.  Only two points separates the trio ranked eighth through tenth with Tracy Link on the outside (by just 21 points) and looking in.

Similar to the Sprint Car ranks, the IMCA Modifieds have offered up eight different winners over the last eight races after Cole Traugott opened the season with back-to-back wins.

Feature Winners: Cole Traugott 2, Kale Beavers 1, Brendon Gemmill 1, Tracy Link 1, William Nusser 1, Randle McRoberts 1, Mike Petersilie 1, Clay Sellard 1.

Joel Lane (Ulysses, KS) 985.

IMCA Sport Modifieds:

While Jeff Kaup puts the finishing touches on a fourth track title in five years, the battle for second is fierce with just 16 points separating the trio of Brian May, Kyle Wiens and Alex Wiens.

IMCA Hobby Stocks:

Reagan Sellard has reeled off back-to-back wins to move atop the point charts, but the lead is a tenuous one at just 19 markers ahead of Duane Wahrman.  A finish of sixth or better in Saturday’s finale will assure a Sellard title.

Feature Winners: Reagan Sellard 3, Duane Wahrman 2, Brett Copeland 1, Matt O’Hair 1.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Reagan Sellard (Bucklin, KS) 1,019, 2. Duane Wahrman (Pratt, KS) 1,000, 3. Matt O’Hair (Laverne, OK) 966, 4. Tyler Walker (Dighton, KS) 952, 5.
