Critical Title Stretch Starts Saturday at DCRP!

sportmods051014 980Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 23, 2014) – A crucial stretch of championship chase action at Dodge City Raceway Park kicks off Saturday night with the first of three consecutive full cards of chase action.

Championship chase action at the 3/8-mile clay oval will be under the spotlight over three of the next four Saturday nights featuring IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars along with Hornets on the inner asphalt oval.  Following an idle weekend next week, action resumes on June 7 and June 14.

Leading the way into Saturday’s card in their respective classes are Ryan Heger (IMCA Modifieds), Jeff Kaup (IMCA Sport Modifieds), Perry Misner (IMCA Stock Cars), Dustin Walker (Thunder Cars) and Jarett Lunow (Hornets).

Saturday’s action fires off at 7:30 p.m.

IMCA Modifieds:

Ryan Heger claimed a fifth-place finish last time out, his third top-five in four events, to hold the top spot by 31 points over defending champ Austin Allen, who jumped to second in points after a runner-up finish.

Only 29 points separate the six drivers ranked second through seventh.

The Modifieds have offered up four different winners in as many events thus far including three first time winners in the Modified ranks at Dodge City.  After veteran shoe Van Gemmill topped the season opener, past Sport Mod track champ Clay Sellard scored a win on April 19.  Joel Lane nabbed his first career Mod win on May 3 with Jesse Smith’s perseverance paying off with his first win in ten years of trying on May 10.

IMCA Sport Modifieds:

Jeff Kaup’s lead in the Sport Mod ranks diminished from 53 points to 44 after an eighth-place finish last time out.  While the reigning champ, a feature winner on April 19, still holds a healthy lead, another 44 points is the difference between the nine drivers ranked second through tenth.

Josh Appel made a jump from ninth to fourth after winning the most recent event on May 10.

IMCA Stock Cars:

A perfect three-for-three so far, 2012 track champ Perry Misner has opened up an advantage of 48 points over Reagan Sellard with only 18 points separating Sellard from fifth in points.

Thunder Cars:

Three top-fives in as many times out has put defending champ Dustin Walker atop the point charts by a slim 13-point margin over William Bauer.  Cody Davis topped the opening pair of events before Dan Rogers moved up to sixth in points with a win last time out on May 3.

Jarett Lunow is a perfect three-for-three on the inner asphalt oval opening up a 22-point lead over Jarred Nightengale.  Lunow is gunning for a second title in as many years after winning five of seven features last year.

Tickets to Saturday’s championship chase card at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $10 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.  Pit passes are $30.

The 2014 slate of events at Dodge City Raceway Park encompasses 15 scheduled nights of competition with a full slate of championship chase action complemented by special events including World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, NCRA vs. ASCS Sooner Sprint Cars, URSS Sprint Cars and MARS Late Models.
