DCRP Season Opener on Saturday!
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (March 25, 2013) – The time has come to begin the pursuit of the track championships at Dodge City Raceway Park. And, with one last blast of winter weather over this past weekend setting the stage for opening day, the 2013 racing season at Dodge City Raceway Park kicks off this Saturday.
The March 30 kickoff event at the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas gets under way at the special time of 4:00 p.m., with pit gates opening at noon and the grandstands open at 2:00 p.m.
Saturday’s event features the track’s five championship classes including the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets.
The opening leg of the championship chase on Saturday will be the first of 13 scheduled rounds of action for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and IMCA Stock Cars with ten scheduled events for the Thunder Cars and eight nights of action on the inner asphalt oval for the Hornets.
Eighteen overall nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 will also include several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks on April 12-13, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts on May 3-4 along with USAC Southwest Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.
Brendon Gemmill ranks as the two-time and defending IMCA Modified track champion after securing a hard-fought 2012 title in the season championship finale by a narrow margin over Cole Traugott and Beau Davis.
Bart Baker is the reigning United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified track champion, with other defending champions including Perry Misner in IMCA Stock Cars, Dan Rogers in Thunder Cars and Dwayne Bowman in Hornets.
Tickets to Saturday’s racing action at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $10 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
