Stocks 033013 980Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 19, 2013) – Racing resumes full tilt on Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park as the chase for the track championships continues atop the premier 3/8-mile clay oval in the land.

The IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars will all battle it out on the 3/8-mile oval while the wild and crazy Hornets mix it up on the inner asphalt oval.  Racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m.

Cody Gearhart is out to the early lead in IMCA Modified track championship points after winning the March 30 season opener with other early points leaders including Clay Sellard (United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds), Shannon Maughlin (IMCA Stock Cars), Scott Messino (Thunder Cars) and Jarett Lunow (Hornets).

IMCA Modifieds:

Turpin, Oklahoma’s Cody Gearhart battled past Mike Lunow 12 laps into the season-opening 20-lapper to jump out to the early points lead.  Gearhart scored one DCRP win in 2012.

United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds:

Clay Sellard, the 2011 track champion in the Sport Modified ranks, kicked off his 2013 campaign in strong form by wiring the field in the season opener after topping two of the final three feature events of the 2012 season at DCRP.

IMCA Stock Cars:

Shannon Maughlin, the 2011 IMCA Modified Kansas State Champion, took command on the white flag lap to win a hard-fought season opener on March 30 that included numerous lead changes along the way.

Thunder Cars:

Scott Messino made a late move to deny Dustin Walker’s charge from the tail after an early incident in an enthralling Thunder Car opener for the season.  Messino picked off one win last year.

Hornets:

Jarett Lunow finished off the 2012 season with his first Hornet triumph and carried that over to the March 30 opener with another triumph to jump into the early lead.

Following this Saturday’s full slate of racing action, the 3/8-mile clay oval will sit idle for just one weekend before a much anticipated weekend double on May 3-4 that will offer up $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified features on each night.  The United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars will be in action on both May 3 and May 4 as well.

Tickets to this Saturday’s racing action are just $10 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

Eighteen overall nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 includes several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks on April 12-13, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts on May 3-4 along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.
