Local Favorite Mike Woodruff Wins the Final
Night of the Second Annual Unicel Kansas Midget Klassic

Dodge City, Kansas (July 23, 2005) - Local favorite open wheel driver Mike Woodruff won the 20-lap "A" Feature of the Second Annual Unicel Kansas Midget Klassic Saturday night at the Dodge City Raceway Park in Dodge City, Kansas.

Woodruff from Santanta, Kansas started on the pole with Aaron Kirk beside him, took the lead at the start. On lap six, the caution came out when Jeff Davis spun out between turns three and four, Davis restarted in the back. Woodruff took a commanding lead on the restart, until Robert Marfia brought out the second caution on lap nine because he was slowing down in turn two. Marfia retired to the pits. On the restart, the caution came out again when Mike Marfia spun out coming out turn two Marfis restarted in back. While all of this was going on, rookie midget driver Russ Harper, starting second row outside was trailing Woodruff. Harper challenged Woodruff for the lead for a few laps toward the end of the feature. At the finish it was Woodruff, Harper, Luke Icke, Rik Forbes and Bob Harr rounding out the top five positions.

Heat race winners was Luke Icke, Aaron Kirk and Russ Harper.

The only bad crash of the evening was in the third hot lap sessions when Russ Harper was attempting to entered the pits when Joe Boyles made contact with Harper. Then Brad Loyet made contact with Harper sending Loyet flipping and hitting hard into pit entrance wall Loyet was ok, but the car was destroyed.

Heat Two (8 Laps) - Aaron Kirk, Bob Harr, Rik Forbes, Andy Mason, Chad McDaniel, Chris DeShon, Jeff Davis, Rob Simpson.

Heat Three ( 8 Laps) - Russ Harper, Joe Boyles, Mike Hess, Chris Wagner, Robert Marfia, Dwayne McMurtrey, Rick England (DNF), Brad Loyet (DNS).

"A" Feature (20 Laps) - Woodruff, Harper, Icke, Forbes, Harr, Kirk, Boyles, Rossi, DeShon, Hess, Bacon, Pankratz, Wagner, Farmer, McDaniel, Davis, Mason, M. Marfia, McMurtrey, Moeller, Simpson, R.Marfia (DNF).
