31 May 2012 | Featured News | |

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 31, 2012) – Dodge City Raceway Park will reach the one-quarter mark of the 2012 racing season as the 3/8-mile clay oval in southwest Kansas presents the fourth of 16 nights of competition this Saturday night.

Saturday night’s card is the next round of championship action for the track’s five regular racing divisions including the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Hornets.

A look at early action…

IMCA Modifieds:

After chasing past National champion David Murray to the line in the April 21 opener, defending track champion Brendon Gemmill swept through both nights of action on May 4 and May 5 for back-to-back wins including one from six rows deep.

With two wins and a runner-up finish, Gemmill is out to a 20-point advantage over Cody Gearhart, who claimed third-place finishes in the opening two events.  Six points back, another six drivers are separated by just three points in the logjam for third.

United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds:

Despite being shut out of victory lane thus car, defending track champion Clay Sellard is out to the early lead on the strength of three runner-up finishes in as many feature events.  His lead is a slim one though, as May 4 feature winner Bart Baker is just one point off the lead pace.

Other winners this year at DCRP include reigning National champion Bryan LaRiviere on April 21 and Jeff Kamp on May 5.

IMCA Stock Cars:

Perry Misner edged Nick Tubbs at the line by mere inches to win the April 21 season opener and then made a mid-race move on May 5 to make it two-for-two with a score over Cody Zimmerman.

Misner holds a nine-point edge over Zimmerman with Keith Riley one more point back in third.

Rogers holds a six-point advantage over Dustin Walker, with Davis another four points back after a DNF on May 4.
