Title Chase Action Saturday at DCRP!
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 28, 2013) – While some drivers will be looking for another opportunity to add a notch to the win column on Saturday night at Dodge City Raceway Park, for others it’s a big night in terms of championship point implications.
Only one night of competition remains after this Saturday night’s tilt at Dodge City Raceway Park that includes the track’s championship chase divisions of IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets.
Saturday’s racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m., with all residents of Dodge City offered free admission with proof of residency.
Following Saturday’s event that puts the wraps on the month of August, all that remains on the 2013 DCRP slate is the September 28 Jerry Soderberg Championship Memorial event that includes the season-ending URSS Sprint Car event along with the track’s five regular divisions.
While drivers in all five divisions will look to park their machine in victory lane at the end of the night on Saturday, others can come one step closer to securing a 2013 track championship.
Those in the driver’s seat entering this weekend include Austin Allen (IMCA Modifieds), Jeff Kaup (United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds), Billy Phelps (IMCA Stock Cars), Matt O’Hair (Thunder Cars) and Jarett Lunow (Hornets).
With a 27-point advantage entering Saturday night’s action, Austin Allen can secure the track championship by finishing among the top four in each of the final two events. But, if Allen finishes deep in the field on Saturday night, Jon Herring, Jr., and Jesse Smith are in poised to take quick advantage and set up a wild championship finale.
Meanwhile, a mere 36 points separate the four drivers ranked fourth through seventh so plenty more shuffling among the top ten is to be expected.
