Title Chases Continue Saturday at DCRP!

heger&allendcrp052414 980Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (June 12, 2014) – With the flags crossed for the midpoint of the season, crucial championship chase points are on the line at Dodge City Raceway Park on Saturday night.

Saturday’s card includes IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Thunder Cars and Hornets with the green flag flying at 7:30 p.m.

And those drivers that leave Saturday night with the points lead in their respective division will hold that lead for at least a few weeks as the championship chase divisions won’t see action again until the Second Annual Modified Stampede on July 19.

IMCA Modifieds:

Five races into 11 scheduled events, reigning track champion Austin Allen holds a meager 6-point lead over Ryan Heger with Kale Beavers, Cole Traugott, Jesse Smith, Mike Lunow and Nick Link all still within striking distance of the title as only 52 points separate the top seven.

Five different drivers have reached victory lane thus far in 2014 with seven different winners in as many events dating back to last year with Traugott and Heger taking the final pair of 2013 wins.

IMCA Sport Modifieds:

Defending champ Jeff Kaup is making it tough on a stout field of rivals with a pair of wins and a pair of runner-up finishes in the opening five events to amass 70 point lead in the title chase over Austin Walker and Josh Appel, who are tied for second.

While Kaup is in break-away mode, only 45 points separate the seven drivers right behind him ranked second through eighth.

Perry Misner’s run of perfection was interrupted last time out by Angel Munoz yet his lead still stands at 48 points over Dusty Witthuhn, who moved into second ahead of Reagan Sellard with Michael Pepper and Randy Dowell rounding out the top five.

Thunder Cars:

A new name is atop Thunder Car points with William Bauer taking the top spot after a fifth-place run last time out.  Bauer has finished no lower than sixth in the opening four Thunder Car features of the season.

Bauer’s lead is a slim one, just seven points ahead of Matt O’Hair with Dustin Walker another point back in third.  Only 32 points separate the top five.

Hornets:

Jarett Lunow remains undefeated on the inner asphalt oval with four feature wins in as many tries to open up a 34-point lead over Jarred Nightengale in the title chase.
