05 July 2012 | Featured News | |

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (July 5, 2012) – With temperatures soaring and championship battles heating up at an even quicker rate, race fans get to take full advantage with $5 Fan Appreciation Night this Saturday at Dodge City Raceway Park.

For just $5, fans get to take in all the wild action offered up by the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Hornets.  Races get under way at 7:30 p.m.

Through the opening portion of the season, Cole Traugott (Modifieds), Bart Baker (Sport Mods), Perry Misner (Stocks), Dan Rogers (Thunders) and Brandon Sprott (Hornets) are atop the championship point charts.  But there’s lots of racing left to do…

A look leading into the weekend…

IMCA Modifieds:

Action has been wild in the headline IMCA Modified class.  While Gemmill’s have won four of six (Brendon with two wins and his father Troy topping the most recent pair of features), it’s Cole Traugott with the points lead.

Traugott’s consistency has him with a slim 2-point edge over defending track champion Brendon Gemmill.  Jesse Smith, Beau Davis and Mike Martin are among others within striking distance of the top spot.

Feature Winners: Brendon Gemmill 2, Troy Gemmill 2, Mike Martin 1, David Murray 1.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Cole Traugott 192, 2. Brendon Gemmill 190, 3. Jesse Smith 181, 4. (tie) Beau Davis and Mike Martin 173, 6. Kevin Gray 166, 7. Austin Allen 163, 8. Van Gemmill 158, 9. Casey Jo Wanger 156, 10. Ryan Heger 153.

United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds:

The Sport Mods have offered up four different winners in as many races, with podium finishes each night it’s Bart Baker out to the lead in points.

Finishing no worse than third thus far, Baker holds a 17-point edge with Josh Appel, Mike Appel and Toby Witthuhn in a tight battle behind him.

Feature Winners: Bart Baker 1, Jeff Kaup 1, Bryan LaRiviere 1, Mike Wadel 1.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Bart Baker 155, 2. Josh Appel 138, 3. (tie) Mike Appel and Toby Witthuhn 135, 5. Larry Grady 127, 6. Clay Sellard 117, 7. Dale Wanger 108, 8. Andy Barton 103, 9. Mike Wadel 77, 10. Jeff Kaup 72.

IMCA Stock Cars:

Perry Misner’s reign of perfection through the opening three events was rudely interrupted in a wild opening lap crash on June 23.  The resulting DNF cut his lead to just three points over Cody Zimmerman.

Feature Winners: Perry Misner 3, Rod Wadel 1.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Perry Misner 143, 2. Cody Zimmerman 140, 3. Keith Riley 128, 4. Brett Copeland 118, 5. (tie) Rod Wadel and Mel Law 117, 7. Justin Temaat 114, 8. Dusty Witthuhn 87, 9. Reagan Sellard 83, 10. Sonny O’Hair 74.

Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars:

Shelby Staple has had the hot hand recently in Thunder Car action with victories the last two time out, but it’s May 4 feature winner Dan Rogers holding a 19-point edge over Cody Davis in the title chase.

Feature Winners: Shelby Staple 2, Cody Davis 1, Dan Rogers 1.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Dan Rogers 157, 2. Cody Davis 138, 3. Scott Messino 132, 4. Bryan Habiger 124, 5. (tie) Randle McRoberts and Dustin Walker 120, 7. Adam Duesing 118, 8. Kim Frodin 115, 9. Dustin Carr 114, 10. Tom Reed 112.

The Hornets heat up the asphalt oval inside the 3/8-mile clay oval that the other four classes take on and it’s been Brandon Sprott emerging victorious in the previous pair of hotly-contested Hornet mains.

Feature Winners: Brandon Sprott 2.

Current Top Ten in Points:  1. Brandon Sprott 80, 2. Jarrett Lunow 78, 3. Dwayne Bowman 76, 4. (tie) Kenneth O’Hair and Derrick Sprott 71, 6. Jarred Nightengale 70, 7. Brandon Bogner 69, 8. Brendon O’Hair 65, 9. Cheryl Copeland 63, 10. Marci O’Hair 59.
