Championship Chase Action Saturday at DCRP!May 27, 2013
All five of the track’s championship chase divisions will be in action with the IMCA Modifieds, United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars on the 3/8-mile clay oval and the Hornets on the inner asphalt oval.
Saturday’s racing action will go green at 7:30 p.m.
Parity is very much at play thus far at DCRP in 2013, with repeat winners very much the exception through the initial three rounds of championship chase action. Only young Hornet shoe Jarett Lunow has reached victory lane more than once.
Unpredictable IMCA Modified action has found Cody Gearhart, Brendon Gemmill and Austin Allen in victory lane, with Goddard’s Allen and Wichita’s Randy Wilson tied for the points lead. Dodge City’s Jesse Smith is just five points off the lead pace with Woodward, Oklahoma’s Jon Herring, Jr., another three points back in fourth.
The United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds have offered up three different winners as well with Clay Sellard, Jeff Kaup and Clay Money claiming victories. Woodward’s Kaup holds a three-point edge over Bucklin, Kansas’ Sellard in the title chase.
While Shannon Maughlin, Cody Zimmerman and Ruben Eichman have each notched IMCA Stock Car wins, the consistency of Mooreland, Oklahoma’s Billy Phelps has him atop the point charts with a 38 point advantage over Josh Crombie (Ness City) and Keith Riley (Larned), who are tied for second.
The Thunder Cars have been out just twice with Scott Messino and Toby Schield posting wins. Posting podium finishes both times out, Dustin Walker (Buffalo, OK) and Cody Davis (Bucklin, KS) are tied for the points lead.
Jarett Lunow sits atop the Hornet point charts with a 16-point advantage over Brandon Bogner. Lunow topped the initial pair of events of the year before Gage Barton broke into victory lane in the most recent outing on May 11.
Tickets to this Saturday’s racing action are just $10 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Eighteen scheduled nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 features several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks in April, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts in July along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.
