DCRP Championship Round Two Saturday Night!April 17, 2014
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 17, 2014) – The second of back-to-back championship chase weekends to open the season at Dodge City Raceway Park is on tap for this Saturday night as all five title chases divisions are in action once again.
With a $750 winner’s share up for grabs in the IMCA Great Plains Stock Car special event, track championship points are also on the line for Stock Cars as well as the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Thunder Cars and Hornets. Racing action gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
Van Gemmill jumped out to the early lead in IMCA Modified points with a win in this past Saturday night’s opener with others out to early point leads including Michael Shenberger in IMCA Sport Modifieds, Perry Misner in IMCA Stock Cars, Cody Davis in Thunder Cars and Jarett Lunow in Hornets.
Ponca City, Oklahoma veteran shoe Van Gemmill surged into the lead on the sixth round after a slow start and then held off 2013 opening day winner Cody Gearhart for the win with defending track champion Austin Allen in seventh.

Michael Shenberger emerged from a side-by-side battle much of the way with defending track champ Jeff Kaup for opening day honors after picking off a pair of DCRP wins in 2013.

Perry Misner, the 2012 track champion, raced from five rows deep to take opening night honors in a strong tune-up for this Saturday night’s $750 to win Great Plains Stock Car showdown atop the 3/8-mile DCRP oval.

Cody Davis wired the field in last Saturday’s opener for his first DCRP win since the 2012 season finale.

Jarett Lunow picked off the season opener for the second year in a row after winning five of seven features to take the 2012 Hornet title.

Next up on the slate at Dodge City Raceway Park following Saturday’s action is the return of Late Model racing to the 3/8-mile clay oval with a MARS vs. NCRA Late Model showdown on Saturday, May 3, along with IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds and Thunder Cars.
Tickets to Saturday’s IMCA Great Plains Stock Car special at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $10 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
