DCRP Hosts BST Modified Championship Event on Saturday!August 20, 2012
Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (August 20, 2012) – Fresh off his first IMCA Modified feature win of the year at Dodge City Raceway Park, Cody Gearhart will try to put the finishing touches on the Leary Racing Products BST Modified Series in Saturday night’s $1,000-to-win series championship event atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval.
In addition to the BST Modified championship event, which will also award track points, other classes in action on Friday night will include the United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Cars and Hornets. Racing action goes green at 7:30 p.m.
Hailing from Turpin, OK, Gearhart worked the extreme upper portion of the track to command in the final rounds of the August 11 event at DCRP, becoming the sixth different winner of the year in nine IMCA Modified feature events at Dodge City.
Now, with the BST title within his grasp, Gearhart will try to make it two wins in a row, which would also put him among the ranks of Brendon Gemmill and Troy Gemmill as multiple feature winners at DCRP this year. B. Gemmill, the defending track champion, has three victories while his father T. Gemmill has posted two triumphs. Other Modified feature winners at DCRP this season include David Murray, Mike Martin and Grant Junghans.
Gearhart carries just a five-point BST Modified points advantage into Saturday’s championship event over Amarillo’s Conner Pullen, with Will Brack, Brendon Gemmill and Chris Bragg filling out the current top five. Woodward, Oklahoma’s Cole Traugott, the current DCRP points leader, is currently sixth in BST points.
Bart Baker holds an 11-point lead over Josh Appel in the United Wireless IMCA Sport Mod title chase as six different drivers have visited victory lane in seven events. Toby Witthuhn and Mike Appel remain within striking distance of the leader as well.
Perry Misner has topped four of seven IMCA Stock Car events to amass a 46-point lead over Brett Copeland, with Dan Rogers holding a 23-point advantage over Scott Messino in the Poor Boy Kustomz Thunder Car title chase. Six different drivers have visited victory lane in seven Thunder Car main events.
Brandon Sprott has topped three of four Hornet mains on the asphalt oval inside the dirt track, yet it’s Dwayne Bowman holding a slim lead over Jarret Lunow, B. Sprott and Derrick Sprott in a tightly-bunched points race in which only 12 points separate the top six.
Tickets to Saturday’s BST Modified championship event are just $15 for adults. Seniors and Military receive a $5 discount, with children 11 and under admitted free if accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.
Dodge City Raceway Park presents 16 nights of racing over a dozen different weekends in 2012. In addition to the five regularly featured classes of competition, special events over the course of the year will include World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, USAC Midgets, USAC Sprint Cars, ASCS National Tour, NCRA Sprint Cars, URSS 305 Sprints and BST Modifieds.
