Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 24, 2013) – Little more than one week remains before the Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede takes place atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park in southwest Kansas.
The IMCA Modified event will take place over two nights next Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, with both full nights of action offering up a $1,200 winner’s share. The balance of the top five each night earns $800, $600, $550 and $500 with $275 for tenth and $150 to start each main event.
Both nights will also include a full slate of action that includes United Wireless IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Thunder Cars.
Wichita’s Randy Wilson is out to the early lead in the DCRP IMCA Modified championship points chase after placing fifth in both opening rounds of chase action on March 30 and April 20. Cody Gearhart and Brendon Gemmill have both claimed feature wins.
Wilson is just two points ahead of Dodge City’s Mike Lunow with the balance of the top five including Dodge City’s Jesse Smith, Cheney’s Beau Davis and Dodge City’s Danny Keller.
The Inaugural Dodge City Modified Stampede will offer up track points on both nights as well as standard IMCA National points.
Clay Sellard holds a four-point edge over Jeff Kaup in United Wireless IMCA Sport Modified points, Billy Phelps holds a 13-point advantage over Josh Crombie in the IMCA Stock Car ranks and Dustin Walker and Cody Davis are deadlocked in a tie for first atop the Thunder Car point charts.
Racing action will get underway at 7:30 on both May 3 and May 4.
Tickets to both nights of racing action on May 3-4 will be just $15 for adults, with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Eighteen overall nights of action at Dodge City Raceway Park over the course of 2013 includes several special events including the TORC Off Road Trucks on April 12-13, the World of Outlaws Sprint Cars on July 5-6, a pair of $1,200-to-win IMCA Modified tilts on May 3-4 along with USAC Sprint Cars on August 23-24 and four rounds of URSS Sprint Car competition along the way.
