Sport Modified Mayhem Saturday at DCRP!August 23, 2016
While the IMCA Sport Modifieds will battle it out for a $1,000 winner’s share, the Saturday night card will also include a full card of Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.
Saturday’s racing action atop the 3/8-mile clay oval will go green at 7:30 p.m.
Woodward, Oklahoma’s Mike Roach reigns as defending Sport Modified Mayhem winner after topping a field of 29 entries last year. Clay Money topped the inaugural version of Sport Modified Mayhem in 2014.
While Robert Elliott is the most recent DCRP winner, Jeff Kaup has held the hottest of hands in recent IMCA Sport Modified action with four overall wins on the season.
But with a pair of early back-to-back DNF’s, Kaup is still in chase mode as he tries to track down Kevin Tabor for the IMCA Sport Modified points lead. Tabor takes a 51 point lead over Kaup into Saturday’s action with only the September 24 Jerry Soderberg Memorial Championship event remaining after this weekend.
While Kaup is running out of time in his title defense, Kyle Wiens enters Saturday’s action ranked third in IMCA Sport Modified points with Brian May and Alex Wiens also among the top five.
Others leading the way into Saturday’s card include Taylor Velasquez in DCRP Sprint Cars, Nick Link in IMCA Modifieds, Michael Pepper in IMCA Stock Cars and Matt O’Hair in IMCA Hobby Stocks.
While Pepper and O’Hair both hold strong advantages in their respective title chases, the leads for Velasquez and Link are both tenuous at best. Velasquez is just four points ahead of defending track champ Luke Cranston in the Sprint Car battle while Link is only ten markers ahead of William Nusser in the Modified chase.
General admission for Saturday’s Third Annual Sport Modified Mayhem event is just $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
