The DCRP Title Chases at the Quarter Pole

Lonnie Wheatley, DODGE CITY, Kan. (May 17, 2019) – Approximately one-quarter through the 2019 championship chase season at Dodge City Raceway Park, a handful of drivers hold the early lead in pursuit of the hardware.

And, of those five leaders, none are reigning champions although three have captured a DCRP track championship in the past.

Saturday night offers up the fourth round of action for all five divisions including the Precise Racing Products DRP Sprint Cars, IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and IMCA Hobby Stocks.  The event that his headlined by the DCRP vs. URSS Sprint Car Clash goes green at 7:30 p.m.

Leading the way into Saturday’s action in their respective classes are Luke Cranston (DCRP Sprint Cars), Clay Sellard (IMCA Modifieds), Dakota Sproul (IMCA Sport Modifieds), Angel Munoz (IMCA Stock Cars) and Cody Ghumm (IMCA Hobby Stocks).  Cranston, Sellard and Munoz have each captured previous DCRP track championships.

Adult admission for Saturday’s card is only $15 with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult.  It kicks off a weekend double that also includes the Round Two atop the newly-constructed Little DCRP clay oval on Sunday afternoon for Micro Sprints and Karts.

Precise Racing Products DCRP Sprint Cars: 

Opening night winner and 2015 track champ Luke Cranston holds the early advantage, but defending titlist Steven Richardson has cut the gap down to just 19 points after a win the last time out.

IMCA Modifieds: 

Clay Money has gone two for three so far, but it’s 2017 champ Clay Sellard leads the way by 51 points over Jesse Smith and defending champion Nick Link, who are tied for second.

IMCA Sport Modifieds: 

Travis Burger made the trip from Manhattan last time out on May 4 and put a stop to Dakota Sproul’s three-race win streak that dated back to last year’s season finale.  But the Hays racer still holds a 17-point edge over Brian May and multi-time track champion Jeff Kaup.

IMCA Stock Cars: 

Forced into a second Baird entry after wiping out his primary ride the previous night, Angel Munoz’ run of two wins in a row was stopped by Kyle Pfeifer last time out at the Stock Car Shootout.  Still, with a third-place finish, Munoz holds a 54 point advantage over Ondre Rexford with Chris Oliver and Marlin Hogie another three points back.

IMCA Hobby Stocks:

 Duane Wahrman surrendered the points lead the last time out.  But not by much as Cody Ghumm sits atop the point charts with a mere three-point advantage.

In total, the 2019 season atop the 3/8-mile Dodge City Raceway Park clay oval is slated for 18 nights of action along with another eight Sunday cards atop the newly-constructed 1/7-mile Little DCRP clay oval.
